Criticism aside, the shooting mechanics felt satisfying and solid enough so that the game did not get boring. Those were my least favorite portions of the game as the forced stealth became more irritating than just unrealistic. The AI-controlled enemy soldiers have the narrowest of lines of sight, and while it would have been too difficult if they had more realistic lines of sight, I think that it took me out of the game world because I was wondering “how didn’t he see me?” For the most part you do not have to use stealth, but there is a section of the game in the second half of the story where you are forced to use stealth. The stealth mechanics were quite barebones, and often broke the immersion. Early on in the main story, the game offers stealth as an option for capturing outposts. Furthermore, I did not care for the stealth mechanics in the game. It seemed like a lazy way of artificially increasing the difficulty of the game. At certain points, closer to the end of the main story, I found myself very frustrated with the game throwing what felt like hoards and hoards of enemy foot soldiers at the player over and over again. However, as the game is now over ten years old, perhaps in 2012 it was a fresher take on the genre than it may seem in 2023. These concepts are similar to many other open-world action games. My main issue with Far Cry 3's gameplay is that it was not particularly unique. The main gameplay loop includes, but is not limited to, capturing bases known as "outposts," climbing radio towers, completing story missions, hunting and gathering resources, and finding relics. The game is an open-world shooter, and is not a super unique take on the ever-popular genre. 80% Xbox 360Exciting story carries adequate gameplay Gameplay: Briefly, the gameplay was good enough.
